» BAC Lowered to 0.08
On January 20 2004, Governor McGreevey signed the law lowing the legal Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) from 0.10 to 0.08. The lower BAC is in line with the nation-wide movement to lower the legal limit for driving. However, the lower limit will have no effect in Trenton. For the new BAC to be effective there needs to be real law enforcement.

» Name in Print
On February 4, 2004, the Star Ledger reported that top officials in the Haynes Security Inc. were indicted on a litany of state charges. Haynes Security held the contracts at the 3 major New York area airports. In the article our very own Joe Santiago was listed as being hired by Haynes as a consultant. A question that persists, however, is what was Santiago’s title at the time. Was he Trenton or Newark Police Director, State Police Superintendent or civilian? If not a civilian, then what is the ethical standard for such conduct? Hopefully, the future will bring the answer.

» K9News Joins in support
The K9News fully endorses the Times of Trenton in their effort to force the City of Trenton to open the books for the Marriot Hotel. There is no reason to cloak the records in secrecy, except to hide impropriety. Rumors abound that the hotel is floundering. In our opinion, the city’s refusal to make the records public only serves to support the rumors.

» He said it
In the March 3, 2004 edition of the Times of Trenton, Deputy Police Director Abe Hemsey was quoted saying, “To me they are more dangerous than a gun.” Hemsey was referring to All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) in his statement. Without even checking, we know Hemsey is wrong. The K9News only wishes that the Times had asked one simple follow-up question: “Why?”

» Did you laugh?
Now it’s time to be honest with yourself. Don’t worry, if you are an elected official in Trenton, nobody will know except you. When you read the Michael Jackson story on Page 3, was your first reaction a laugh? A laugh to yourself counts as a yes. Well if you did laugh, then you are in the majority. All the people “sampled” with the Jackson concept laughed. But why? He is only surrounded in rumor and innuendo. He is at the top of his field and has a way with children. So why the laugh? He has yet to be convicted of any crime. So we ask again, why did you laugh? Okay, we think we proved our point. But now for the $64,000 question: Did you laugh when you heard Santiago was going to be Police Director in Trenton? If Michael Jackson and children is a bad idea, then why is Joe Santiago and crime fighting not? If you were honest with yourself and believe Santiago was a good choice, then we invite your comment as to why we are wrong.
